Dear friends of Pine Ridge. We are pleased to report that we were able to once again send food to our brothers and sisters on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota. Our good friends and distribution partners, the Hutterite community of Starland in Gibbon Minnesota, once provided a semi truck and refrigerated trailer to take the food to the rez. Each Lakota family received Johnsonville brats (60-120 ) and lots of buns and bread. Along with the brats we sent enough Klement’s summer sausage for each family to receive between 3-6 pieces, again with enough bread to make many, many sandwiches. To add to the good Wisconsin based food items, we sent enough Palermo’s pizzas for each family to get 6-10 pizzas. Rounding out the food list were Libby’s green beans and carrots and finally, each family got 4-5 boxes of chocolates . All of the numbers are approximate as large families received a larger share than smaller families or elderly couples.
Then food was delivered on Saturday, March 19, to distribution points in the villages of Red Shirt, Oglala and Kyle. We had lots of help from the local Lakota people,.and there were a number of tribe members who delivered food to destitute families and elders who were not able to come to the distribution points.
On behalf of everyone involved in the food distribution, I wish to say “Thank you” for helping to make this happen. We provided a large amount of excellent quality food, just in time for Easter, and over 400 families received the blessing of a full belly, not just for one meal, but for many meals
